Capillary IC & Mass Spectrometry for Trace Environmental Analysis

  
  
  
  
  
  

With Dionex Ion Chromatography (IC) becoming a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, and with the introduction of capillary IC, the usability of IC with mass spectrometry (MS) for trace-level analysis and sample-size-limited research has been significantly enhanced.

Here, we present a method for capillary IC with Reagent-Free IC (RFIC) -MS with our capillary Reagent-Free IC (RFIC) system (Thermo Scientific Dionex ICS-5000 RFIC system) with suppression technology which converts the MS-incompatible mobile phase to deionized (DI) water, and a modified electrospray ionization (ESI) source which optimizes capillary flow sensitivity. This method provides applications for trace level environmental analysis, including common anions and organic acids, perchlorate, and residue of the herbicide endothall in environmental water samples.
